Touchpoint Two: Set Structure & Goals

Joining a new work environment can be very nerve-wracking. Not only is this my first internship, but this is the first time I am working remotely outside of a school setting. Remote school had conditioned me to work at my own pace with minimal human interaction. Something about working remotely has always made me feel “less than.” There were no real goals beyond turning in assignments, and nothing about that structure made me feel like my work mattered or felt fulfilling to me.

But from day one at Pitch Publicity, Amy Summers proved me wrong. She didn’t make me feel like a small fish in a big pond. Instead, she created a structured, interactive, and motivating work environment — exactly what she describes in LIFT’s Touchpoint Two: Set Structure and Goals.

I remember what it felt like training with Amy. I could not believe how organized she was, and how much “human” interaction she provided in a virtual setting! Amy had me start live pitching my second day of training — I was absolutely terrified, and tried playing it off as cool, calm, and collected. But looking back, I admire Amy for doing this. She barely knew me, yet she trusted me and believed in me enough to throw me into real work immediately. When I first started pitching, I felt discouraged and thought I let Amy down. New interns usually made their first booking on their third day of training — but I couldn’t accomplish that.

When I told Amy at the end of the day, she wasn’t even disappointed. If anything, she provided me with words of encouragement and helped me reset my mindset. Within that next day of training, I made two bookings! I’ll never forget when I broke the news to her. She was ecstatic for me! In this very moment that’s when I knew — the work that I am doing is not just important to the team, but it was also deeply important to me.

What made this possible was the support and structure Amy engraved into the work environment. The Project Goal Tracker she established provided me with clear expectations and incentives to work towards every two weeks. Daily check‑ins with her also kept me grounded and connected with her. Being added to the team communication platform let me see others’ wins and bookings, which motivated me to meet my goals. For the first time in a remote environment, I felt supported, guided, and part of something meaningful.

Because of these motivators, I achieved my first pitching goal. Touchpoint Two talks about how people thrive when they can actually see the path ahead, and that’s exactly what Pitch Publicity did for me. Having real structure, clear goals, and a team that cheers you on doesn’t just help you succeed… It helped boost my confidence and completely changed how I look at remote work. I can say without a doubt— Amy Summers and this team have LIFTed me up!
