The Pitch Episode 15:
Ditch the 1-800-PITCH

Read:

Do you remember the popularity of phone numbers that spelled out names? If you do, then you also remember working before the advent of smartphones. What once used to be a cool gimmick to help someone remember your phone number, like 1-800-PitchMe, is now a barricade to getting a response to your pitch. Quit making it so hard for people to reach you! In today’s fast-paced world no one has time to spell out your company’s name on their phone pad in order to figure out your actual phone number. If you can’t part with the cute phone “letter” or you work for someone who’s stuck in the 90s when this concept was cool, then do the person you are pitching a huge favor and spell it out in numbers too. “The Pitch” challenge today: take inventory of your marketing gimmicks. Put yourself in the position of your customer or the person you are pitching and ask yourself if any of your promotion is actually making it more difficult for people to respond. Accessibility is your ACE when it comes to pitching. Dare to ditch the 1-800-PITCH “phone letter” and revert back to a classic “phone number” for a quicker, and less frustrating response.
